The Business Expo

Here is Eric at his Business Expo on Thursday. I think that this is the most fun kids can possibly have learning about economics. The kids sold everything from desk cleaning service to sports instruction and math tutoring as well as ornaments, jewelry, caricatures (really impressive art from a third grader, and joke telling. The Superintendant from the Board of Education even came out and talked with each child individually and "bought" their products. The kids were so proud of themselves. I wish I had this much fun in school!

The Loot---Eric made $47

Eric's business expo

Eric is studying economics in Social Studies. To drive home the concept of supply and demand the kids have been hard at work over the past 6-7 weeks on a business project. First they had to interview someone in business (thank you Uncle Karl) about their services, who they serve, costs involved, marketing, and human and physical resources required. After that they decided on a good or service that they would like to provide and built a business around it. They had to survey their target population (third graders), detail a business plan and create advertisements.
Eric's company is called Cookie Attack and he is making pumpkin cookies. I tried to steer him in every other direction but cutouts but this is what he had his heart set on. From top to bottom it was his work. This Thursday they finally have their business expo. The four third grade classes will set up shop and sell to each other with "money" that they earn in class. Tonight we started on the cookies. Eric did so much of it himself...casted hand and all.

This project has been so much fun and Eric has learned so much. I think he understands supply and demand better than I do. I am so proud of him for the work he put into this project! I can't wait to go "shopping" on Thursday!

Here are some pictures of "sweet" David as he was getting ready to open birthday presents.

Patience

I learned something from "Dog Breath" today...
Have patience...even when the kids are sqeezing you a little too tightly.
It may be annoying but it's the way they LOVE!

Casted

Eric is leading the pack in the "most casted" contest!

He of course had a cast on each foot for two weeks when he was first born and now this. It looks like it's killing him doesn't it? He came home from schol on Friday and said he had a hard time writing because his wrist hurt. I remembered that he had mentioned his wrist hurting several times in the past week so Kem took a look at it. Apparently he has a slight fracture of the growth plate. It was Kem's day off so he took Eric over to the office before they closed and took some x-rays and got a cast. It would have healed just fine without the cast but Eric wanted it and we figured it was probably better so he didn't make it worse by falling on it. Did I mention he has NO IDEA how it happened. It has been on for a day and a half now and he wants it off because it's itchy!

None of the rest of us have had a cast at all...ever, so he is the clear winner...so far.

Hey MoM...

Hey Mom...Look what I got!
I have no place in my house to put coats and bags and things when you come in. It has been driving me crazy for as long as I have lived here. I have been looking for a bench and coat hooks but just couldn't find what I was looking for. My wonderful mom emailed me a link for these (while she was supposed to be doing homework) and I actually got them! I'd rather have a closet so I can't see all of our junk but this is the next best thing.

*Thanks for procrastinating mom!

Leafy Fun

It was beautiful and warm this weekend so I celebrated by raking the leaves. Do I know how to have fun or what. Well, I may not know how to have fun but the boys sure do. Here they are playing in the leaves in our backyard. Do you see the green grass in our yard? Now that is something to celebrate!

Baby gifts

I LOVE making baby gifts!

I haven't gotten to make baby gifts in several years because my sewing machine broke. I finally borrowed one from a friend to make a taggie and burp cloth for another friend who is having a baby girl any day now. I had forgotten how much fun it is...especially since Karen's machine actually works! SO much fun!
